Why is it ok to drink, and not ok to smoke marijuana. Lets hypothetically say its legal, would it be ok to smoke marijuana in moderation?
My answer:
I hate answering these kinds of questions because I can already tell it is going to cause a posting frenzy.
To begin with, Christians are under a biblical mandate to respect and obey the laws of the land (Deuteronomy 17:2; Ecclesiastes 8:2-5; Matthew 22:21; 23:2-3; Romans 13:1-7; Titus 3:1; 1 Peter 2:13-17; 2 Peter 2:9-11). Contrary to popular belief, simply disagreeing with a law does not constitute a license for breaking that law. I know you said “hypothetically it was legal” so I will try and approach it from another angle, but in our country this is a good enough reason.
Scripture does not mention marijuana or any illicit drug, so to say “thou shall not” will not work unless you are looking at the spirit of scripture. Illicit drug use is an extremely effective way to destroy your health, not just physically, but mentally and emotionally as well. There is nothing in alcohol that has health risk on your body if done in moderation. With any drug or even smoking there are health risks. Most doctors or experts would say that smoking any sort of drug or cigarette is a health risk for your body or your mind. So I would think you would be violating scripture if no matter how much you smoke you are effecting your mind and your body.
Here is my problem with putting illicit drugs on the same level as alcohol. I have never met anyone who does not use marijuana as an escape… I do not know someone who smokes marijuana or any illicit drug and does not get high and their mind is not altered. So in your attempt to justify something just make sure that you understand the level of addiction both mentally and physically. I do understand that alcohol and food can be an addiction for people and they can be unhealthy if not consumed in moderation but what is moderation for marijuana? I would say there is no moderation because even the slightest amount effects your health and sobriety.
You can all have fun with this! The battle for balance is a constant war, make sure you stay focused on the cross.

Here’s my take on this issue..
Didn’t Jesus only go against the law when it contridicted the work of his father (for example: healing on the Sabbath)? He clearly wants us to respect the laws of our land (for example: He told us to pay our taxes).
I think this is more of a heart issue. Are we trying to see how far we can go before we cross the line into sin or are we striving to live a Holy life?
From what I understand, alcohal is bad for you if done in excess. In fact, there are some health reasons TO have glass of wine. Once again, I think this is a heart condition. We need to check our motive as to why we are having a drink, and as Aaron said…have balance in what we do.
I think you are right on Aaron. I think you summed it up well, and none of the preceding posts really dealt with this scripturally or Spiritually as well as you did.

ok, Marijuana should not even be considered a drug. why you ask. Because it comes from a living plant that was put here by god himself. three are no other chemicals added to it at all. There are also great medical uses for it. Also the law is made up by the government right? so what des the government want? money. they could care less about what you do to your body. BUT they can not tax marijuana because it is so easily grown that is why it is not legal. As long as you do not abuse it and do not try other drugs with marijuana you will be just fine.

alcohal is much worse than marijauna alcohal hurts your liver and kills brain cells at the same time while marijauna use does not effect your liver at all and does not kill brain cells it just freezes them for that select time you are high now if you abuse marijauna it may have permanent effects but if you use it in moderation you should be fine oh yeah…. and why is salvia legal if marijauna is not salvia a (strong psychodelic) changed my mind i was not able to function properly after using this drug and after using marijauna my mind was able to function perfectly
hypothetically speaking, if i had to choose, between someone who is really high and someone who is really drunk to take me home in a vehicle after a fun party, i would choose the person not drinking. You have more control high then drunk. Motor skills are so much worse drunk then high. Really i wouldn't choose either but, like i said, if i had to choose. From my experience, i can 100 percent say that motor skill wise and reaction time, alcohol definitely has more impact in a negative way. High or drunk, totally different. I rarely have to clean up puke from someone who smoked a blunt. I rarely find someone passed out not able to move after smoking a couple of blunts. I've smoked 3 ounces, all in blunts, then 2 ounces of chronic out of a bong, and was still able to walk into Ihop and function. i once drank a bottle of vodka, woke up naked on my next door neighbors lawn in the middle of the night 2 hours before i had to go to work….i totally forgot what i was talking about or typing,…..
