Can you recommend any good reading material?

Can you recommend any good reading material in modern language for life and love? I am 13 year old boy.

My Answer:

DC,

Thanks for reading my site and putting a question out. I am not sure of any good books for teens.  I could recommend the Bible but I do not really focus on books written in modern language. I can recommend one other book by Mark Driscoll called Vintage Jesus.  Check it out!  I will ask my readers but let me tell you that some of these readers may recommend whacky stuff.  So I can not stand behind all of it, but lets see if we can get any help.  Do you all know of any good books about Jesus for a 13 year old boy?

No, ha, But I’d probably stand behind you with Mark Driscoll for sure. What about his new one, Death By Love? Its written in an extremely easy to read format

There’s a Bible called THE YOUTH BIBLE and along with scripture written in “modern language” -there are short little real life stories from young people and scripture references on how to deal with one type of problem or another. I would recommend it for anyone, young or old :o)

Hey man! I would encourage you to read “Crazy Love” by Francis Chan. I want to share a testimony I heard over the weekend. It is very short, but very powerful! There were two different stories of two twelve year olds. One of them felt the Lord drawing her near to Him, so she decided that she was going to dedicate her teen years to pursuing the Lord and she did. She is now an incredible woman of God with a strong testimony that says you do not have to be old to serve the Lord with all of your heart, mind and strength. Another was of the son of the man who hosts “The Call” which is a massive prayer gathering (www.Thecall.com) his name is Jesse Engel and when he was twelve, he read about fasting in the Bible. At twelve years old, he made the decision to fast for forty days to get to truly know the Lord. So for forty days (he talked to his dad first) he only drank water and 100% juice. He is an incredible man of God. So hooray! I’m glad to see someone as young as you getting yourself involved and seeking after the Lord.

Hey man, being a teenager is hard stuff. It is when everyone is finally coming into the person they are going to be personality-wise for the most of their life. It is when we are most influencable. I know there are many people your age (especially if you go to public school) that will try to interest you in many things. As a teenager in junior high and highschool i was constantly pressured into sex and drugs and easily fell to that pressure because the concept of partying all night and day seemed awesome. Life is more important than a party though. Those that said they were my friends left my side in a heartbeat and everyone i came to know until i was about 20 was nothing more than fairweather friends who never had my back. Jesus does have your back though, and certainly never turns away when things get tough. Remembering what being a teenager felt like the best thing i could say to you is-whether or not you are popular for doing so you should stay with Jesus and not let anyone take you away from that. Even if something seems really appealing remember that there are always better things to do with your life then make fellow peirs happy by acting out. they may act like they hate you now but they will see later that you chose a better life than they chose for themselves. If you want something to read I could recomend a few books (by the way Vintage Jesus is an awesome read) but the book you should be most focused on is the one and only Bible. God has many great stories in their that are for both young and old. Everything from the worlds strongest man (Samson) to they guy who got eaten by a whale (Jonah) to the man who saved us all by being beaten and nailed to a tree (Jesus). Jesus loves you man, return the favor.
