| This is a question sent in by Mike on the “Ask Aaron Anything” link:
There is a lot of speculation as to who Jesus’ favorite disciple was. A lot of people speculate that it was John, but I have not actually found anything that flat out says John was his favorite. It refers to a favorite disciple at the end of the book of john, but it makes no reference to it actually being john. What do you think? MY ANSWER: Mike, I will say, before this question I have never thought or heard any speculation as to who Jesus’ favorite disciple was. I know Jesus had 3 out of the 12 who where considered to be his inner circle I know about the scripture in John that refers to John being the one that Jesus loved. I am not sure how to answer the question because it would all be speculation on my part and I am not sure what it would do for the gospel sake. I will give a couple thoughts… When you can say that Jesus loved you that shows a lot about the revelation and knowing that you are loved by Jesus but it does not say he loved him more or any of the others less. I am sure that the relationships between the disciples and Jesus where all unique just as all of our relationships are unique with Jesus. I am not sure if it helps but I will open it up to the readers to comment. I would encourage you to not put too much weight in extra gospel speculation. People make up debates just to sound deep and thoughtful but they are not helping the gospel in any way. I know you are not doing that mike but do not feel like you have to get into an arguement over this issue. Any thoughts or comments on this question would be great! |

Hello Mike,
I’d encourage you to read Luke chapter 9 verse 46-48. I won’t give you my opinion of it, because it will help you much more if you pray for God’s eyes and understanding then read it for yourself. Also, I’m saying, don’t take my word for it, read it for yourself!
This section is, in my Bible (New Living Translation) Titled (“The Greatest In the Kingdom” and is about a time when his disciples started argueing amongst themselves who is the greatest out of them.
