I have really been enjoying Phil Wickham although I have not yet bought an album! I have been just replaying over and over the sing-along album that you can download for free off of his sight (philwickham.com). I love this song “Beautiful” and the melody just catches me for some reason. I cannot get this song out of my head. One thing I love about Phil Wickham’s songs is the Christ and Cross centered message that he instills in the lyric. He seems to sing the gospel and I love that. I hear this song live and off the album and I like both but there is something about hearing the whole crowd singing that touches me. Well enjoy and as soon as I can fork out the money I will be buying his album.
So here’s a quick funny music story about obedience.
I think its powerful because its dealing with hearing God in something that might seem so small and trivial:
So i took the remaining CDs I had from WAY back in the day in HS that I didn’t manage sell in phoenix to a used record store here, because I just felt like The Holy Spirit was telling me to get rid of them, I don’t listen to em anyway (mostly all Korn CDs, no good, ya know?
)
So i took them in, about 20 or so, as they counted them, I looked around and couldn’t find much, couldn’t any christian music, but found Killswitch Engage’s new CD that i really wanted, and some avenged sevenfold CDs that i already downloaded all the songs, but they were cheap and it would be nice to have the full quality CD (I know these aren’t the best bands either, but these are the 2 new metal bands that my flesh still can’t help but dig
)
So, I go up to the counter and he can only give me like $11 for 4 of them, the other 16 weren’t perfect. I told the guy to keep them, or trash em, i didn’t want them. And asked if they had christian music….he showed me a small section i didn’t see, and i looked through it for anything recognizable, but couldn’t find hillsong or anything else major i recognized, and my flesh started really wanting the avenged sevenfold CD cuz i already know I like them ya know? I looked over the the various artists tab and this X 2006 Christian Rock Hits CD stuck out in a sore way, like it maybe might’ve been God telling me to get it, but i just thought “naw that’s ridiculous, i’m not sure God would even tell me to get a particular CD, and that’s not as certain as His voice/conviction usually is to me, that was really subtle and a whisper” …”besides i dont know if ill even like these guys i’ve never heard of any of these bands”……So I bought the Avenged Sevenfold CD – City of Evil :/ ….yeah i know lol. And felt somewhat uneasy but kinda brushed it off.
Later that day, Erik, a guy I met through a church here, invited me over to watch the game, and gave me some CDs he’s been talking about giving me (i asked him when we first met about christian rock cuz he said he knew alot) He gave me 2 cds and i took them home. On the drive home I put it in and started at the case….”X 2006 Christian Rock Hits….was that?…..lol yeah that was the CD i was thinking about getting today…I disobeyed you AGAIN God, lol wow, forgive me”
Turns out the CD is AWESOME, a few of the songs I’ve heard of before and really liked and had no idea they were Christian…
Moral of the long story:
Don’t EVER doubt God or think any situation is too stupid, little, or trivial for God to tell you what to do in it
Drew,
Great story!
